Ok, here I go!

I'm running a half marathon in Iceland to raise money for the Canadian Diabetes Association. Sounds a bit random, I know, but there is a back story.
A couple of weeks ago I found out a long-time family friend had to have his foot amputated as a result of complications due to Type 1 Diabetes. He had always been an active, outdoorsy man and I have many childhood memories of hiking and skiing with him and my family. So it was a bit of a shock, to say the least.
The next day I was listening to a random radio station (unusual for me) when I heard an advertisement for Team Diabetes; the Canadian Diabetes Association was looking for participants to race in Iceland.
Running? Iceland? hmmmm....I hadn't really ran since I hurt my knee skiing 15 years previously. A half marathon? Seriously? Well, why not? So I laced up my runners and went for a jog. Not a long one, mind you, but still....I can do this!

So I started training and started this blog. I'll be keeping you informed about various fund raising events I will be holding as well as how my training is coming along. (Slowly, so far!)
Feel free to send your comments, tips, stories about running, Iceland, and of course, Diabetes!
Bye for now!
