more FUNdraising!

Just back from a lovely evening run with a gorgeous sunset! Spring is definitely here and life is sweet. (I still need to get new running shoes, however!)

What else is happening? Well, I went to a couple of great fundraisers last week. On Thursday night I helped out with "Hair Wars" a hilarious evening hosted by Mine Hair Salon in support of the Children's Wish Foundation. Entertainment included a fashion show by Burcu's angels followed by some fierce competition in the "Hair Wars"; where four salons battled it out with super
sassy hairstyles and seriously incredible performances--including impromptu cheeky clipper art...MC'd by Joanie the fabulous Drag Queen. The event raised almost $5000 to send 10 year old Tanner on a Walt Disney Cruise. This I can relate to: my niece and nephew have both received wishes from the Children's Wish Foundation; one of the wishes was a Walt Disney cruise. I was very happy to support this cause!

Something a bit different on Friday night: a fundraiser for the Main Street Drift, a local arts and culture festival. My friend Mark, aka Steamboat Fattie was djing for the event so I decided to go check it out. What a great idea! 30 blank canvasses were hanging on the wall with paintbrushes and paint all ready to go...everyone was invited to paint and draw on whatever canvas they pleased--collaborative creating! And then the finished paintings were auctioned off.

Main Street peeps are definitely putting the "fun" in fundraiser!

On that note, I will soon have more "fun"draising events of my own to share with you....curious?

Oh, and here's a few more gorgeous pics of that crazy volcano...Enjoy!

SORE KNEES!!! Working on my alignment with my fabulous pilates instructor Tasha and going to go see my Naturopath Dr. Mel for some prolotherapy (homeopathic injections into joints; sounds scary and works amazingly!)
Perhaps it's also time for some new running shoes...

2009 Reykjavik Marathon

It's a beautifully soft spring evening; perfect for running. Hopefully the weather will be similar for the race in August; judging from last year's photos, possibly not. And I won't even get into the meteorological effects of volcanic activity.....but anyways, check out some pics from last year's event.

Spring

Another extra big think you to Mavis Davidson; who has been spring cleaning and de-cluttering in order to host a yard sale for my fundraising efforts. Much appreciated!

ERUPTION!

It seems there's been another volcanic eruption in Iceland in the Eyjafjallajoekull glacier (pronounced ay-yah-FYAH'-plah-yer-kuh-duhl) . There has been flooding and 800 people have been evacuated; although the flooding seems to have peaked without the roads and bridges coming apart. The ash spewed into the air by the volcano continues to cause chaos with all European flights.
This eruption follows the March 20th eruption prior to which the volcano had been dormant since 1821 (at which time it continued to erupt for 2 years!)
Maybe it will REALLY be the Fire and Ice Marathon (and maybe I'll be racing in Rio instead...)
Wishing all the best to those in Iceland at the moment

FOCUS

Since the I'm over hurdle number one (the first fundraising deadline!) it's now time to start training in earnest. The race (scratch that; I'll call it 'the event'; race is a little too intimidating!) is 18.5 weeks away and I've started following a 16 week program--see, plenty of time! Even EXTRA time! Plus the weather has been absolutely gorgeous and it's not difficult to want to be doing something active outside. I've been training with my personal Pilates Instructor, the wonderful Tasha Wright, for the past 3 months so my core muscles are strong and my body is coming into alignment. I've enlisted yogi Shandy Rae to assist me in staying limber and gaining strength.
BRING IT ON!
