Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy that traces its origins back to ancient Chinese medical traditions.

Combining the knowledge of anatomy and physiology with the wisdom of oriental medical philosophy, shiatsu employs the techniques of manual pressure and gentle stretching to release tension and stress. Some of the conditions that shiatsu can help include: muscular tension and pain, headaches, arthritic pain, digestive problems, menstrual irregularities, insomnia, and anxiety. Shiatsu's sensitive, deep pressure is slowly applied to specific points along the body's energy pathways, or meridians, inducing a state of relaxation wherein the body's natural healing mechanisms operate more freely.

Because of this technique, no oils are used and the client can be fully clothed during treatment. Shiatsu is most effective when it is received regularly before illness occurs, and when combined with a health conscious lifestyle.

Reiki?

Today I'd like to introduce you to Sarah, a talented artist and healer. She will be offering Reiki treatments and you will also have the opportunity to experience an Amethyst Biomat--heaven!

My name is Sarah Rosenthal, and I am a Reiki practitioner in Vancouver. I use a combination of Usui and Tibetian Reiki, coupled with my deep intuition for a unique healing experience. Also for the healing fair, I will be offering Amethyst bio-mat sessions in combination with Reiki, or on it's own. Over the past 5 years I have had many difficult health challenges (fibromyalgia, gall stones, nervous system issues, intense food sensitivities, neck, back and SI joint issues.) When I was 1st introduced to Reiki I had immediate relief from the intense pain I was in. My first session had such a profound impact on me, it lead me to study Reiki 1, 11, and Master/ teacher in 2006 under the guidance of Reiki Master Chris Hyndman. Over the 4 years that I have been practicing and teaching Reiki all aspects of my life have improved. I have found that Reiki allows me to stay connected and centered, while also feeling supported as I acess the core elements underlying my health issues. Reiki is truly a gift, and am very grateful to be able to share it with others.

Treatment: What to expect
Reiki is a Japanese touch therapy, that is very gentle, and deeply effective. Reiki helps to promote the body to restore any lost balance between, the mind, body and spirit. To administer Reiki as the practitioner I will use gentle touch on the top of the body, or will work off the body depending on the individual and where my intuition takes me. Each person will experience a treatment differently, some will feel heat where the hands are, some cold, some a deep sense of relaxation, also some will feel the body releasing (stomach gurgles, body twitching, energy rush,) and some will feel nothing at the time of the treatment (may have effects over the next few days.)

Remembering to Play is about remembering the wisdom, joy and freedom of being a child. It is about recapturing the spirit of innocence, open-heartedness, curiosity and spontaneity often lost when our early years are spent more as little adults than children. Play returns us to the wisdom of a child’s mindset where we interact and create with joy and wonder, and where life is a mysterious gift, full of magic and unlimited possibilities. By remembering to play, we remember our spirit and the importance of connecting to and nurturing the spirit of our friends, family and community.

From 1:30-2:30pm Remembering to Play Events is offering a fun and interactive playshop at the Healing Fair Fundraiser for the Canadian Diabetes Association. Learning takes place through many modalities including personal exploration, music, creative movement, storytelling, art, open discussions and written material.
